PARTS OF SPEECH शब्दांच्या जाती

Words are divided into different kinds or classes, called Parts of Speech, according to their use; that is, according to the work they do in a sentence.

शब्द त्यांच्या वापरानुसार वेगवेगळ्या प्रकारात किंवा वर्गात विभागले जातात, ज्यांना शब्दांच्या जाती म्हणतात; 

The parts of speech are eight in number.

1. Noun

2. Adjective

3. Pronoun

4. Verb

5. Adverb

6. Preposition

7. Conjunction

8. Interjection


[1] Noun

A noun is a naming word. It can be the name of a person, place or a thing.

For example : Kavya | girl | table | tree |honesty.


[2]Pronoun : 

A pronoun is a word which is used in place of a noun.

For example :  I | We  | They |  You|  He | She | It | this | that | these  | those

First Person :

I | We | me | my | us | our 

Second Person :

You | Your | Yours

Third Person :

He | him | his | she | her | they | them


[3]Adjective :

The adjective is a word that qualifies a noun or a pronoun.

For example :

1. Tiya is a rich girl. (Qualifies a noun)

2. He was very lazy. (Qualifies a pronoun)


[4] Verb : 

A verb is a word that describes an action. 

For example:

sing | bring | purchase | play | call | beat

A) Main Verb -

      1. Finite Verb - 

          •Transitive Verb  •Intransitive Verbs

      2. Non-finite Verb

           •Infinitive •Participle •Gerund

B) Helping Verbs :

     •Primary: 

       is | am| are| was |were

       do | does | did

       have | has | had

      

     •Modal Auxiliary

       can | could | would | should | may 

       might | must | will | shall


[5] Adverb :

An adverb is a word that modifies a verb, an adjective or another adverb.

For example:

He walks fast. (Modifies a verb)

He walks very fast. ('Very' modifies an adverb)

She is a very lazy girl. ('Very' modifies an adjective)


[6] Preposition :

A preposition is a word that is used before a noun or a pronoun to show its relation with other words of the sentence.

For example :

On the table, in the classroom, to the hospital


[7] Conjunction :

A conjunction is a word that joins two or more words, phrases or clauses.

For example :

and, because, but, so, therefore etc.


[8] Interjection :

An Interjection is a sound of word which is used to express sudden or strong feelings of joy, shock, surprise, pain etc.

For example :

Oh! Ouch! Ah! Alas!
