AN HOUR IN THE SCHOOL LIBRARY शाळेच्या ग्रंथालयात तासभर

     Yesterday we had our first library period for the year.  काल आमची वर्षातील पहिली ग्रंथालयाची तासिका होती.  As students of std IX we would be allowed to sit once every month for one hour in the library. इयत्ता नववीचे विद्यार्थी म्हणून आम्हाला दर महिन्याला एकदा वाचनालयात एक तास बसण्याची परवानगी दिली जायची.  I was most excited because we would be allowed to read and also take home storybooks, magazines, novels for the first time.  आम्हाला पहिल्यांदाच गोष्टीची पुस्तके, मासिके, कादंबरी वाचण्याची आणि घरी नेण्याची परवानगी दिली जाणार म्हणून मला खूप आनंद झाला.  

     Our class went to the library in single file. आमचा वर्ग एकाच रांगेत वाचनालयात गेला.  The library is a big room with shelves, cupboards and racks for books.  लायब्ररी म्हणजे पुस्तकांसाठी शेल्फ, कपाट आणि रॅक असलेली एक मोठी खोली आहे.  The books are arranged in the cupboards in alphabetical order. पुस्तके कपाटांमध्ये वर्णमाला क्रमाने मांडलेली आहेत.  Magazines and newspapers are displayed on the racks.  रॅकवर मासिके आणि वर्तमानपत्रे प्रदर्शित केलेली आहेत.  Only students of std IX and X are allowed to read magazines and newspapers.  फक्त इयत्ता नववी आणि दहावीच्या विद्यार्थ्यांना मासिके आणि वर्तमानपत्रे वाचण्याची परवानगी आहे.  

     The librarian gave each of us library membership cards which we had to write our names and class.  ग्रंथपालाने आम्हा प्रत्येकाला लायब्ररी सदस्यत्व कार्ड दिले ज्यावर आम्हाला आमची नावे आणि वर्ग लिहायचा होता.  Then we went about searching for books of our choice.  मग आम्ही आमच्या आवडीची पुस्तके शोधत फिरलो.  Our class teacher was with us.  आमच्यासोबत आमचे वर्गशिक्षक होते.  Since it was the first day, she helped us to find books.  पहिला दिवस असल्याने त्यांनी आम्हाला पुस्तके शोधण्यात मदत केली.  She suggested the names of authors.  त्यांनी लेखकांची नावे सुचवली.  

     Soon I had found an exciting story book.  लवकरच मला एक रोमांचक कथेचे पुस्तक सापडले.  I took my place at the long table and sat down to read.  मी लांब टेबलावर माझी जागा घेतली आणि वाचायला बसलो.  The book was so interesting I almost forgot where I was.  पुस्तक इतके मनोरंजक होते की मी कुठे होतो हे जवळजवळ विसरले होतो.  Two boys who were sitting beside me disturbed me.  माझ्या बाजूला बसलेल्या दोन मुलांनी मला त्रास दिला.  While reading they were giggling.  वाचताना ते हसत होते.  The teacher gave them a hard look and warned them.  शिक्षकांनी त्यांच्यावर कठोर कटाक्ष टाकून इशारा केला.  The two immediately stopped.  दोघे लगेच थांबले.

     I was so surprised when the librarian announced ," Five minutes left".  ग्रंथपालाने "पाच मिनिटे बाकी" अशी घोषणा केली तेव्हा मला खूप आश्चर्य वाटले.  We had to then enter the name of the book we were taking home in the card.  त्यानंतर कार्डमध्ये आम्ही घरी नेत असलेल्या पुस्तकाचे नाव टाकायचे होते.  Our class teacher also helped out.  आमच्या वर्गशिक्षकांनीही मदत केली.  Then we went back to class in silence.  मग आम्ही शांतपणे वर्गात गेलो.  I was anxious to get home and finish reading the story I had begun in the school library.  शाळेच्या लायब्ररीत मी सुरू केलेली कथा घरी जाऊन वाचून पूर्ण करण्यासाठी मी उत्सुक होतो.
