Last Sunday there was a heavy rain. गेल्या रविवारी जोरदार पाऊस झाला. I prayed to God to let the rain continue for the next day. दुसऱ्या दिवशी पाऊस असाच चालू राहू दे म्हणून मी देवाकडे प्रार्थना केली. For then our college would remain closed on Monday. त्यामुळे आमचे कॉलेज सोमवारी बंद राहिले असते. Unfortunately, Monday began with a clear sky. दुर्दैवाने सोमवारची सुरुवात निरभ्र आकाशाने झाली. At 10.00 a.m. there was bright sunlight. सकाळी 10.00 वाजता तेजस्वी सूर्यप्रकाश होता. There was no cloud in sight. ढग दिसत नव्हते.
I set out for college at the usual time. मी नेहमीच्या वेळेला कॉलेजला निघालो. I was disappointed. माझी निराशा झाली. But I was hardly half way down when there was a sudden change in the atmosphere. पण वातावरणात अचानक बदल झाला तेव्हा मी अर्ध्या रस्त्याने खाली उतरलो होतो. The sky grew ink-black. आकाश शाई-काळे झाले. Thunder began to growl. गडगडाट करू लागला. Lightening flashed and soon it started raining cats and dogs. विजेचा लखलखाट झाला आणि लवकरच मुसळधार पाऊस सुरू झाला. By the time I arrived at the college, I was completely wet. कॉलेजला पोहोचेपर्यंत मी पूर्ण भिजले होते. My new raincoat could not protect me from the heavy rain. माझा नवीन रेनकोट मला मुसळधार पावसापासून वाचवू शकला नाही.
Our Principal was standing at the gate. आमचे प्रिन्सिपल गेटवर उभे होते. When he saw most of the students completely wet, he declared the college closed for the day. बहुतेक विद्यार्थी पूर्णपणे भिजलेले पाहून त्यांनी कॉलेज दिवसभरासाठी बंद घोषित केले. He asked us to go home. त्यांनी आम्हाला घरी जायला सांगितले. A shout of joy went up from us. आमच्यातून आनंदाचा एक ओरडा उठला.
I went home through flooded lanes. भरलेल्या गल्ल्यातून मी घरी गेलो. It continued to rain heavily. मुसळधार पाऊस सुरूच होता. At some places the water was knee-deep. काही ठिकाणी गुडघाभर पाणी होते. It gave me a thrill of adventure to wade through it. त्यातून फिरण्यासाठी मला साहसाचा थरार मिळाला. I got back home and took bath. मी घरी परतलो आणि आंघोळ केली. My mother served hot piping parathas for me. माझ्या आईने माझ्यासाठी गरम गरम पराठे वाढले. My brother sailed paper boats in the rivulets flowing outside. माझ्या भावाने बाहेरून वाहणाऱ्या नाल्यात कागदी होड्या सोडल्या. We helped people who were trapped in heavy rain. मुसळधार पावसात अडकलेल्या लोकांना आम्ही मदत केली. We offered them tea and snacks. आम्ही त्यांना चहा आणि नाश्ता दिला. I enjoyed the rainy holiday to my heart's content. पावसाळी सुट्टीचा मी मनापासून आनंद लुटला.
