MORAL STORY - THE FARMER AND THE WELL

 

            One day, a farmer was looking for a water source for his farm, when he bought a well from his neighbour. एके दिवशी, एक शेतकरी आपल्या शेतासाठी पाण्याचा स्रोत शोधत होता, तेव्हा त्याने आपल्या शेजाऱ्याकडून एक विहीर खरेदी केली. The neighbour, however, was cunning. शेजारी मात्र धूर्त होता. The next day, as the farmer came to draw water from his well, the neighbor refused to let him take any water. दुसऱ्या दिवशी, शेतकरी त्याच्या विहिरीतून पाणी काढण्यासाठी आला असता, शेजाऱ्याने त्याला पाणी घेण्यास नकार दिला.

             When the farmer asked why, the neighbour replied, “I sold you the well, not the water,” and walked away. जेव्हा शेतकऱ्याने कारण विचारले तेव्हा शेजाऱ्याने उत्तर दिले, "मी तुला विहीर विकली, पाणी नाही" आणि निघून गेला. Distraught, the farmer went to the emperor to ask for justice. निराश होऊन शेतकरी बादशहाकडे न्याय मागण्यासाठी गेला.  He explained what had happened. त्याने काय घडले ते स्पष्ट केले.

          The emperor called on Birbal, one of his nine, and wisest, courtiers. बादशहाने त्याच्या नऊपैकी एक आणि हुशार, दरबारी बिरबलला बोलावले. Birbal proceeded to question the neighbour, “Why don’t you let the farmer take water from the well? You did sell the well to the farmer?” बिरबलने पुढे जाऊन शेजाऱ्याला प्रश्न केला, “तू शेतकऱ्याला विहिरीचे पाणी का घेऊ देत नाहीस? तू शेतकऱ्याला विहीर विकली ना?”

           The neighbour replied, “Birbal, I did sell the well to the farmer but not the water within it. He has no right to draw water from the well.” शेजाऱ्याने उत्तर दिले, “बिरबला, मी शेतकऱ्याला विहीर विकली पण त्यातील पाणी नाही. त्याला विहिरीतून पाणी काढण्याचा अधिकार नाही.”

           Birbal said, “Look, since you sold the well, you have no right to keep the water in the farmer’s well. बिरबल म्हणाला, “हे बघ, तू विहीर विकली असल्याने तुला शेतकऱ्याच्या विहिरीत पाणी ठेवण्याचा अधिकार नाही.  Either you pay rent to the farmer, or take it out immediately.” एकतर तू शेतकऱ्याला भाडे दे, किंवा ते ताबडतोब बाहेर काढ.” 

               Realizing that his plan had failed, the neighbour apologized and went home.” त्याची योजना अयशस्वी झाल्याचे लक्षात आल्यावर शेजारी माफी मागून घरी गेला.

Moral of the story - मतितार्थ

Cheating will not get you anything. If you cheat, you’ll pay soon enough.

फसवणूक केल्याने तुम्हाला काहीही मिळणार नाही. जर तुम्ही फसवणूक केली तर तुम्हाला लवकरच भरपाई करावी लागेल.
