INTERCHANGE OF AFFIRMATIVE AND NEGATIVE SENTENCES

AFFIRMATIVE SENTENCES

Sentences which do not have no, not, never,  none, neither...nor in them and  state something are called AFFIRMATIVE SENTENCES. 

Jigna goes to the market.

Jigna goes to school on time.

NEGATIVE SENTENCES 

Sentences which state something and have no, not, never, none, neither...nor in them are called NEGATIVE SENTENCES.

Jigna does not go to the market.

Jigna never goes to school on time.


How to change Affirmative sentences into Negative sentences

By using opposite words-

Affirmative- I rarely come here.

Negative- I don't come here often.

Affirmative- He is absent.

Negative- He is not present


By using fail to - (do), fails to - (does), failed to - (did)/do not, does not, did not

Affirmative- Lira fails to come.

Negative- Lira does not come.

Affirmative- Lira and Shiva fail to come.

Negative- Lira and Shiva do not come.

Affirmative- Lira failed to come.

Negative- Lira did not come.


By using a few/not many

Affirmative- There were a few stalls.

Negative- There were not many stalls.


By using as well as/not only...but also

Affirmative- Miri is honest as well as beautiful. 

Negative- Miri is not only honest but also beautiful. 


By using little/not

Affirmative- He little knew about her.

Negative- He didn't know about her.


By using a little/much

Affirmative- I know a little

Negative- I don't know much.


By using Unless/If...not

Affirmative- Unless you run fast, you will miss the train. 

Negative- If you don't run fast, you will miss the train.


By using too...to/so...that

Affirmative- Isha is too fat to walk fast.

Negative- Isha is so fat that she can not walk fast.


By using without/not

Affirmative- He was without money.

Negative- He didn't have money.


By using is, am, are unable to/cannot

Affirmative- I am unable to speak french.

Negative- I cannot speak french.


By using was, were unable to/could not

Affirmative- He was unable to get the passport. 

Negative- He could not get the passport. 


By using opposites/can not

Affirmative- The news is untrue.

Negative- The news can't be true. 


By using far from being/not

Affirmative- He is far from being extraordinary. 

Negative- He is not extraordinary. 


By using change the degree/not

Affirmative- Mitu is not bigger than Jinal.

Negative- Jinal is as big as Mitu.


By using soon/presently/not long soon

Affirmative- Soon the train came.

                         Presently the train came.

Negative- It was not long before the train came.


By using without/no

Affirmative- Smira is without children.

Negative- Smira has no children. 


By using less/no

Affirmative- Himar is jobless.

Negative- Himar has no job.


By using free from/no

Affirmative- Paras is free from bad habits.

Negative- Paras has no bad habits.


By using hardly any/no

Affirmative- Muru has hardly any time.

Negative- Muru has no time.


By using hardly anybody/nobody

Affirmative- Hardly anybody liked this place.

Negative- Nobody liked this place. 


By using hardly anyone/no one

Affirmative- Hardly anyone knew my house.

Negative- No one knew my house.


By using hardly anything/nothing 

Affirmative- The street cats had hardly anything to eat.

Negative- The street cats had nothing to eat.


By using hardly ever/never

Affirmative- Kriva hardly ever helped me.

Negative- Kriva never helped me.


By using always/never 

Affirmative- Pera always failed.

Negative- Pera never succeeded.


By changing the degree of comparasion (est/any other/No other)

Affirmative- Lira is the cleverest girl.

                         Lira is cleverer than any other girl.

Negative- No other girl is as clever as Lira.


By using As soon as, Hardly...when/No sooner...than

Affirmative- As soon as the bell rang, we went out.

                         Hardly had the bell rang when we went out.

Negative- No sooner did the bell ring than we went out.


By using only/nothing but

Affirmative- There is only an armchair in the room.

Negative- There is nothing but an armchair in the room


By using only/nobody...except 

Affirmative- Only the watchman was present. 

Negative- Nobody was present except the watchman. 


By using only/no other...except 

Affirmative- There was only a hut.

Negative- There was no other house except a small hut.


By using until/till...not

Affirmative- Wait there until I come.

Negative- Wait there till I do not come.
