Once a year, we have a very grand function in our school. That function is the Annual Prize Distribution Day. It is always held in the last week of December just before the Christmas vacation begins.
This year, it was held on Saturday the 24th in the spacious school hall, which was beautifully decorated. Mr. Desai, the chairman of the Siddhivinayak Education Trust, was the chief guest. He arrived at the school exactly at 4 PM. He was garlanded at the entrance and greeted by the Principal and the staff. Then he was escorted to his seat in the first row. Everyone gave him a standing ovation.
The programme started with a prayer by a group of Std IX. The Principal, the Chief guest and a few senior members of the staff went up to the dais.
After everyone had settled down, the Principal introduced the chief guest to the audience. Then the secretary of the school read out the annual school report. Next, the supervisor read out the names of the prize winners who came, one by one, to receive their prizes. I received 3 prizes, one for elocution, second for drawing competition and the third as the best student among std 10th class students. After the prize distribution, the Chief guest rose to speak. He praised the prize winners for their achievement and asked other students to follow their example. His speech was lively, brief and full of encouragement.
This was followed by a variety entertainment programme put up by students of various classes. There were amuzing skits and interesting dances. The Koli dance was the most exciting item.
In the end, the Vice Principal proposed a vote of thanks. The function ended with the National Anthem. The memory of this happy occasion is still fresh in my mind, especially because I received three prizes.
In essence, the annual prize distribution ceremony is not just a formal event but a celebration of success, talent, and the collective spirit of a school community dedicated to nurturing and empowering its students.
