We use the Past Continuous Tense to talk about actions that were happening at a particular time in the past. Let’s learn how to identify it in a paragraph.

How to Identify Past Continuous Tense:
• Structure:
• Subject + was/were + verb + ing + Object
• Example: I was reading, They were playing, She was eating

• Usage:
• To show an action that was going on at a past time
Keywords: yesterday at 5, last night, while, when

• Verb Form:
• Use was (for I, he, she, it) or were (for we, you, they) + verb + ing

Daily-Use Paragraph (Past Continuous Tense):
     Yesterday at 7 o’clock, I was doing my homework. काल सात वाजता मी गृहपाठ करत होतो.
My mother was cooking dinner in the kitchen. माझी आई स्वयंपाकघरात जेवण बनवत होती. My father was talking on the phone. माझे वडील फोनवर बोलत होते. My brother was watching cartoons. माझा भाऊ कार्टून पाहत होता. We were waiting for our food. आम्ही आमच्या जेवणाची वाट पाहत होतो.

How to Identify:
• The verbs: was doing, was cooking, was talking, was watching, were waiting all use was/were + verb + ing
• These actions were happening in the past at the same time
