How to Use 'Lately'

Lately means recently / in the past few days, weeks, or months.
It is mostly used with the Present Perfect Tense.

1. At the end of the sentence

🔮I haven’t slept well lately.

Explanation: Lately is placed at the end to show the action of not sleeping well has been happening in the recent past.

2. Before the main verb (when the verb is not “to be”)
🔮I have lately joined a new gym.

Explanation: Lately comes before the main verb joined to stress that the action of joining happened in the recent past.

3. After the verb “to be” (is, am, are, was, were)
🔮She is very happy lately.
Explanation: With be verbs, lately usually follows them. Here it shows her state of being happy in the recent period.

4. At the beginning of the sentence (for emphasis)

Explanation: Lately is placed at the beginning to give emphasis. It highlights that the visits happened in recent days.
