First, read all the phrases in Column A carefully. सर्वप्रथम, स्तंभ A मधील सर्व वाक्प्रचार काळजीपूर्वक वाचा. Understand their meanings and match each phrase with the correct meaning given in Column B. त्यांचे अर्थ समजून घ्या आणि प्रत्येक वाक्प्रचाराचा स्तंभ B मधील योग्य अर्थाशी मेळ घाला. Then, use each phrase in a sentence to understand how it is used. त्यानंतर, प्रत्येक वाक्प्रचाराचा वाक्यात उपयोग करून तो कसा वापरला जातो हे समजून घ्या.
(1) Looking out for – (c) Trying to search for
Meaning: Searching for something – एखाद्या गोष्टीचा शोध घेणे.
Sentence: Androcles was looking out for a safe place to hide. अँड्रोक्लीस लपण्यासाठी सुरक्षित जागा शोधत होता.
Explanation: Looking out for means searching for or trying to find someone or something. म्हणजे एखादी व्यक्ती किंवा वस्तू शोधणे अथवा तिचा शोध घेत असणे.
Looking out for या वाक्यात अँड्रोक्लीस लपण्यासाठी सुरक्षित जागा शोधत होता.
(2) Face to face – (f) In front of each other
Meaning: Directly opposite each other – एकमेकांसमोर.
Sentence: Androcles came face to face with the lion. अँड्रोक्लीसचा सिंहाशी समोरासमोर सामना झाला.
Explanation: Face to face means being directly in front of another person or animal.
Face to face म्हणजे दोन व्यक्ती किंवा प्राणी एकमेकांसमोर असणे. या वाक्यात अँड्रोक्लीसचा सिंहाशी समोरासमोर सामना झाला.
(3) Summon up courage – (e) Try to be brave
Meaning: Gather courage – धैर्य एकवटणे.
Sentence: Androcles summoned up courage to help the lion. सिंहाला मदत करण्यासाठी अँड्रोक्लीसने धैर्य एकवटले.
Explanation: Summon up courage means to gather the courage to do something difficult or frightening.
Summon up courage म्हणजे कठीण किंवा भीतीदायक काम करण्यासाठी धैर्य एकवटणे. या वाक्यात अँड्रोक्लीसने सिंहाला मदत करण्यासाठी धैर्य एकवटले.
(4) Rage melted – (a) Anger reduced
Meaning: Anger became less – राग कमी झाला.
Sentence: The king’s rage melted when he heard the truth. सत्य ऐकल्यानंतर राजाचा राग कमी झाला.
Explanation: Rage melted means that someone's intense anger became less strong or disappeared.
Rage melted म्हणजे एखाद्याचा तीव्र राग कमी होणे किंवा नाहीसा होणे. या वाक्यात सत्य समजल्यानंतर राजाचा राग कमी झाला.
(5) Be moved by – (d) Filled with soft feelings
Meaning: To become emotional – भावूक होणे.
Sentence: The king was moved by Androcles’ kindness. अँड्रोक्लीसचा दयाळूपणा पाहून राजा भावूक झाला.
Explanation: Be moved by means to feel strong emotions because of someone's kindness, sadness or actions.
Be moved by म्हणजे एखाद्याचा दयाळूपणा, दुःख किंवा चांगले कृत्य पाहून भावूक होणे. या वाक्यात अँड्रोक्लीसचा दयाळूपणा पाहून राजाच्या मनात प्रेम आणि सहानुभूती निर्माण झाली.
