VISIT TO A HOSPITAL

        A visit to a hospital is always unpleasant but, still, often one has to. हॉस्पिटलला भेट देणे नेहमीच अप्रिय असते, परंतु तरीही, बऱ्याचदा एखाद्याला करावे लागते. Some days ago a friend of mine had an accident. काही दिवसांपूर्वी माझ्या एका मित्राचा अपघात झाला होता. It happened thus : He was on his way to a medical shop. असे घडले : तो मेडिकल दुकानाकडे  जात होता. He was trying to run across a busy road when a bike knocked him down. तो व्यस्त रस्ता ओलांडून पळण्याचा प्रयत्न करत असताना एका दुचाकीने त्याला धडक दिली. He was taken to the hospital at Parel. त्याला परळ येथील रुग्णालयात नेण्यात आले. I visited the hospital as soon as I came to know about the mishap. अपघाताची माहिती मिळताच मी हॉस्पिटलला भेट दिली. I saw my friend. मी माझ्या मित्राला पाहिले. He was injured but the doctor said that the injury was not serious. त्याला दुखापत झाली होती मात्र दुखापत गंभीर नसल्याचे डॉक्टरांनी सांगितले. The doctor told me that the patient would be discharged in a couple of days. डॉक्टरांनी सांगितले की, रुग्णाला एक-दोन दिवसांत डिस्चार्ज मिळेल.

         My friend was in the casualty ward. माझा मित्र कॅज्युअल्टी वॉर्डमध्ये होता. There were fifty beds in that ward. त्या वॉर्डमध्ये पन्नास खाटा होत्या. I comforted and cheered up my friend. मी माझ्या मित्राला दिलासा दिला आणि आनंद दिला. I wished him a speedy recovery. मी त्याला लवकर बरे होण्यासाठी शुभेच्छा दिल्या.

         Then I went round the hospital. मग मी हॉस्पिटलला चक्कर मारली. I saw the operation theatre. मी ऑपरेशन थिएटर पाहिले. There were big glass cupboards containing surgical instruments. तेथे काचेची मोठी कपाटे होती ज्यात शस्त्रक्रियेची साधने होती. I saw different wards which were quite spacious. मी वेगवेगळे वॉर्ड पाहिले जे खूप प्रशस्त होते. Beds were arranged along the walls. भिंतींच्या बाजूने पलंगांची व्यवस्था केली होती.

         Smart and active nurses in their spotlessly white uniforms were moving from patients to patients doing the needful. चाणाक्ष आणि सक्रिय परिचारिका त्यांच्या निष्कलंक पांढर्‍या गणवेशातील रूग्णांकडून रूग्णांकडे आवश्यक ते काम करत होत्या. Doctors in their neat aprons and with stethoscope dangling round their necks were examining the patients. डॉक्टर नीटनेटके ऍप्रनमध्ये आणि गळ्यात स्टेथोस्कोप लटकवून रुग्णांची तपासणी करत होते. The ward boys were doing their best to keep the wards clean and tidy. वॉर्ड स्वच्छ व नीटनेटका ठेवण्यासाठी वॉर्ड बॉईज सर्वतोपरी प्रयत्न करत होते. All the staff members were very kind and helpful to the patients. सर्व कर्मचारी रुग्णांना अतिशय दयाळू आणि मदत करणारे होते. I admired their devotion to their duty. त्यांच्या कर्तव्यनिष्ठेचे मला कौतुक वाटले. After staying with my friend in the hospital for half an hour, I returned home. अर्धा तास हॉस्पिटलमध्ये माझ्या मित्रासोबत राहिल्यानंतर मी घरी परतलो.
