If you go to the market and you have Rs. 1000, you can buy only as many items as you can in thousand rupees. You can't buy extra items. जर तुम्ही बाजारात गेलात आणि तुमच्याकडे रु. 1000 आहेत तर तुम्ही एक हजार रुपयांत जितक्या वस्तू खरेदी करू शकता तितक्याच वस्तू खरेदी करू शकता. तुम्ही अतिरिक्त वस्तू खरेदी करू शकत नाही. The same is the case with our income and expenditure. आपल्या उत्पन्नाची आणि खर्चाचीही तीच अवस्था आहे. Our expenses should always be within the limits of our income. आपला खर्च नेहमी आपल्या उत्पन्नाच्या मर्यादेत असावा. Otherwise we are sure to land in debt and difficulties. अन्यथा आपण कर्जात आणि अडचणीत सापडण्याची खात्री आहे. We will surely come to grief and then we may have to repent. आपल्याला नक्कीच दुःख होईल आणि मग आपल्याला पश्चात्ताप करावा लागेल. The proverb thus tells us not to spend more than what we earn to live within our means. म्हणून ही म्हण आपल्याला सांगते की आपण जे काही कमावतो त्यापेक्षा जास्त खर्च करू नका. This proverb is a piece of wordly wisdom. ही म्हण ऐहिक ज्ञानाचा एक तुकडा आहे. It advises us to be careful in our expenses. ती आपल्याला आपल्या खर्चात सावधगिरी बाळगण्याचा सल्ला देते. The crash must have come on the day the uncle had to repay the borrowed loan. ज्या दिवशी भावाने घेतलेले कर्ज फेडायचे होते त्या दिवशी हा अपघात झाला असावा. Not only must he have lost the things he had bought on instalments but he must also have beaten by his friends. त्याने हप्त्यांवर विकत घेतलेल्या वस्तू गमावल्या असतीलच पण त्याच्या मित्रांनी त्याला मारहाणही केली असावी. Loss of dignity and freedom must have been the price he paid for his reckless lifestyle. त्याच्या बेपर्वा जीवनशैलीसाठी त्याला प्रतिष्ठा आणि स्वातंत्र्य गमाउन किंमत मोजावी लागली. This proverb applies not only to individuals but also to businessmen, even the government of a country. ही म्हण केवळ व्यक्तींनाच नाही तर उद्योगपतींना, अगदी एखाद्या देशाच्या सरकारलाही लागू पडते.
So the proverb is of universal application and appeal. म्हणून ही म्हण सार्वत्रिक लागू असलेले आवाहन आहे. It teaches us to economise, to be frugal. हे आपल्याला अर्थकारण शिकवते, काटकसर करायला शिकवते. It should guide us in the management of our resources. आपल्या संसाधनांच्या व्यवस्थापनात आपल्याला मार्गदर्शन व्हायला पाहिजे. The wisdom of the proverb would guide everybody to live and work within the means and to avoid possible embarrassment, shame or even punishment resulting from living beyond his means. म्हणीतील शहाणपण प्रत्येकाला जगण्यासाठी आणि साधनांच्या आत काम करण्यास आणि त्याच्या क्षमतेच्या पलीकडे जगण्यामुळे होणारी संभाव्य लाजिरवाणी, लाज किंवा शिक्षा टाळण्यासाठी मार्गदर्शन करेल.
