INTERCHANGE OF SIMPLE, COMPOUND AND COMPLEX SENTENCES - 1

1. Simple Sentence साधे वाक्य

It has only one subject and one finite verb and expresses a complete idea.

A simple sentence is one that has only one independent clause. 

या वाक्यामध्ये एकच मुख्य क्रियापद, एकच उद्देश आणि एकच विधेय असते.

Examples:

1. Everyone was surprised to see him. त्याला पाहून सगळेच आश्चर्यचकित झाले.

2. I like flowers. मला फुले आवडतात.

How to make Simple Sentences

You can make a sentence Simple by making sure that it has only one finite verb. This means that if there are other finite verbs in the sentence, you will have to remove them. You will have to create phrases to attach to the main sentence.

How to change a compound or complex sentences into a simple sentence.

A) By interchanging the parts of speech

1. I don't know why he is sad. तो दुःखी का आहे ते मला माहित नाही.

Simple sentence : I don't know the reason of his sadness. त्याच्या दुःखाचे कारण मला माहित नाही.

B) By using a 'gerund' (Verbal Noun)(Verb1 + ing)

1. I do not know how one can cook. जेवण कसे बनवतात ते मला माहित नाही.

Simple sentence : I do not know cooking. मला स्वयंपाक येत नाही.

C) By omitting the repeated/unimportant words

1. It was there that the accident took place. तिथेच हा अपघात झाला.

Simple sentence : The accident took place there. हा अपघात झाला.

D) By using a preposition with a noun/adverbial phrase

1. Although she studied hard, she failed. जरी तिने खूप अभ्यास केला, तरी ती नापास झाली.

Simple sentence : In spite of her hard work she failed. मेहनत करूनही ती अपयशी ठरली.

E) By using an 'infinitive'

1. I should study hard so that I may get first class.

मला प्रथम श्रेणी मिळावी म्हणून मी खूप अभ्यास केला पाहिजे.

Simple sentence : I should study hard to get first class.

प्रथम श्रेणी मिळविण्यासाठी मी कठोर अभ्यास केला पाहिजे.

F) By using an absolute phrase

1. The weather was fine so we went for a walk. हवामान चांगले होते म्हणून आम्ही फिरायला गेलो.

Simple sentence : The weather being fine, we went for a walk.

हवामान चांगले असल्याने आम्ही फिरायला गेलो.

G) By using a participle (Verbal Adjective) - (Verb1 + ing)

1. He had his lunch and went home. दुपारचे जेवण करून तो घरी गेला.

Simple sentence : Having his lunch he went home. दुपारचे जेवण करून तो घरी गेला.
