THERE IS / THERE ARE

There is and There are are used to speak about the presence or existence of someone or something.

Examples:

1. There is a Shiva temple on the main road. मुख्य रस्त्यावर एक शिव मंदिर आहे.

2. There is a girl here. इथे एक मुलगी आहे.

3. There is a post office next to the Saraswat Bank. सारस्वत बँकेच्या पुढे पोस्ट ऑफिस आहे.

4. There are forty two flats in our society. आमच्या सोसायटीमध्ये बेचाळीस फ्लॅट्स आहेत.

5. There is your mobile. तुझा मोबाईल तेथे आहे.

There is and There are are also used to speak about a programme or an event to take place.

Examples:

1. There is her birthday party on Sunday. रविवारी तिच्या वाढदिवसाची पार्टी आहे.

2. There is an extra class tomorrow. उद्या जादा क्लास आहे.

3. There are two important meetings tomorrow. उद्या अत्यंत महत्त्वाच्या दोन सभा आहेत.

Sometimes There is is used to speak about something happening now.

Examples:

1. There is a quarrel in the street. रस्त्यावर भांडण चालू आहे.

2. There is a hissing sound somewhere. कुठेतरी फुसफुसण्याचा आवाज येत आहे.
