Examine the following sentence -

Jeeva pushed Reva. 

What is the relation of the Noun Jeeva to the Verb pushed?

The Noun Jeeva stands as the Subject of the Verb pushed.

When the Noun Jeeva stands as the Subject of a Verb,  it is said to be in the naming relation or Nominative Case. 

Any noun or pronoun that is the Subject of a Verb is said to be in the Nominative Case, as,

1. Our class teacher punished Triva. (Who punished? - Our class teacher)

2. The mobile was hidden by Sarin. (What was hidden? - The mobile)

3. We brought a new sofa set. (Who brought? - We)
