AT A WEDDING

     I was invited by my friend to attend the marriage of her elder brother. मला माझ्या मैत्रिणीने तिच्या मोठ्या भावाच्या लग्नाला बोलावले होते. When I reached my friend's house, I saw well-dressed relatives and neighbours assembled in the mandap. जेव्हा मी माझ्या मैत्रिणीच्या घरी पोहोचले तेव्हा मला चांगले कपडे घातलेले नातेवाईक आणि शेजारी मंडपात जमलेले दिसले. My friend's parents received the invited guests at the gate of the mandap. माझ्या मैत्रिणीच्या पालकांनी आमंत्रित पाहुण्यांचे मंडपाच्या गेटवर स्वागत केले. The guests were seated on chairs. पाहुणे खुर्च्यांवर बसले होते. The band was playing film music and songs. बँड चित्रपट संगीत आणि गाणी वाजवत होता. The wedding procession started at 9.30 o'clock. 9.30 वाजता लग्नसराईला सुरुवात झाली. The group of band players walked in the front. बँड वादकांचा जत्था पुढे चालला. Behind them, group of youngsters and children were dancing. त्यांच्या मागे तरुण-तरुणींचा समूह नाचत होता. The bridegroom's parents and close relatives walked with an air of importance in the front row. वधूचे पालक आणि जवळचे नातेवाईक पुढच्या रांगेत दिमाखात चालत होते.

     Many ladies and girls walking behind the bridegroom. अनेक स्त्रिया व मुली वराच्या मागे चालत होत्या. People crowded on both the sides of the road to watch the marriage procession. लग्नसोहळा पाहण्यासाठी रस्त्याच्या दुतर्फा लोकांनी गर्दी केली होती. The procession approached the mandap in front of the bride's house. मिरवणूक वधूच्या घरासमोरील मंडपाजवळ आली. The parents of the bride and the elderly persons received the bridegroom, the guests and all other invited people who had come with the procession. वधूचे पालक आणि वृद्ध व्यक्तींनी वर, पाहुणे आणि वरातीसह आलेल्या इतर सर्व आमंत्रित लोकांचे स्वागत केले. The guests took their seats in the beautifully decorated mandap. सुंदर सजवलेल्या मंडपात पाहुणे आपल्या जागेवर बसले. The brahman took the bride and the bridegroom to the platform specially erected for the wedding ceremony. ब्राह्मणाने वधू आणि वराला लग्न समारंभासाठी खास उभारलेल्या मंचावर नेले. He made them sit there. त्यांनी त्यांना तिथे बसवले. He performed some religious rites by chanting sacred mantras. त्यांनी पवित्र मंत्रांचा उच्चार करत काही धार्मिक विधी केले. Thus the wedding ceremony was performed and the people cheered and clapped. अशा प्रकारे विवाह सोहळा पार पडला आणि लोकांनी टाळ्या वाजवून जल्लोष केला. 

     The bride and bridegroom went round the mandap and bowed to the elders who blessed them. वधू-वरांनी मंडपात जावून आशीर्वाद देणाऱ्या ज्येष्ठ व्यक्तिंना नमस्कार केला. All the people greeted the newly married couple. सर्व लोकांनी नवविवाहित जोडप्याला शुभेच्छा दिल्या. The guests were served a fine dinner which they enjoyed most. पाहुण्यांना उत्तम रात्रीचे जेवण देण्यात आले ज्याचा त्यांनी सर्वाधिक आनंद घेतला.
