THE FUTURE - 3

There are many ways of expressing the future.

FUTURE CONTINUOUS TENSE ➡️

Another common means of expressing future actions that are planned is the Future Continuous Tense (shall/will + be + ing form ➡️ She will be cooking)

He will be coming here next week.

I will be staying here till Saturday.

This tense is preferred when the action is fairly certain to happen.

Read the following examples, which show how different future forms may convey different shades of meaning➡️

1. Nupur will meet us at the Phoenix mall, I expect. (Pure future)

Neema is going to meet us at the Phoenix mall. (It is her intention to do so)

Neema is meeting us at the Phoenix mall. (Neema has so arranged with us)

Neema will be meeting us at the Phoenix mall.(It is fairly certain that she will meet us)

Compare also➡️

Will you meet us at the Phoenix mall?(Request)

Will you be meeting us at the Phoenix mall?(Query)

The Future Continuous is also used for actions that will begin before a certain time in the future and end after it.

For example ➡️

When I get home, my children will be sleeping.

We will be watching the movie at this time tomorrow.

THE FUTURE PERFECT TENSE

To express the completion of an action by a certain future time, the Future Perfect Tense shall/will have past participle ➡️ (She will have done) is used.

I will have finished my work by nine o'clock.

I will have washed my clothes by evening.

By the end of next week we will have lived here for ten years.

Before you go to see them, they will have left the village.
