SAFETY FIRST

Mukar was a very rich man. He was looking for a good car driver. He published an advertisement for the vacancy in the newspaper, Maharashtra Times. Three men applied for the job. One day, Mukar called all 3 of them for an interview.

He called the first applicant and asked him whether he had any experience. The applicant replied that he an experience of 7 years. Then, Mukar said to him, "How near the edge of a precipice can you drive?" The man answered, " Sir, you need not worry. I can take a car within a foot of any high and steep precipice." He sounded very proud of his skill. Mukar asked him to leave.

Then, the second applicant was called in. He said that he had 10 years of experience. Mukar asked the same question, "How near the edge of a precipice can you drive a car?" "Within an inch, Sir," came the boastful reply. The second applicant was promptly sent away.

Then came the turn of the third candidate. He said he had 2 years of car-driving experience. He too was asked the same question about driving near a precipice. Without any hesitation, the third candidate replied, "'I would never dream of taking my car near the edge of a precipice. I follow the golden rule 'Safety first'. I always keep the car at a safe distance from danger points.”

Pleased with this sensible answer, Mukar selected the third candidate for the post and gave him 5000 rupees in advance. Then the driver went home happily.
