The newspaper boy is a familiar figure. We see him riding on a bicycle or taking brisk walks carrying a bundle of newspapers. He wakes up early in the morning and goes to the newspaper agent from whom he collects his bundle of newspapers. He is allotted a particular locality or 'line'. The newspaper boy is always in a hurry. He never wastes a single minute because it is essential that newspapers reach his regular customers in time. People are annoyed if they do not get their newspapers early. It is a fact that many people eagerly await the arrival of the newspaper boy.
The newspaper boy also sells evening newspapers, but this is a matter mostly limited to big cities where newspapers are published. There are very few regular customers for evening newspapers. Therefore, the newspaper boy has to stand in the streets and shout the headlines loudly to sell them.
The newspaper boy works very hard. He has to ride on his bicycle or walk about morning and evening every day of the week. He has to work even on Sundays. His woes and worries are many but his earnings are too meagre to assure him 2 full meals a day. He is not much educated but some of the newspaper boys are really praiseworthy. They attend schools or colleges regularly hoping to improve their life.
Despite being poor, he is honest, faithful, and industrious. His work is very useful to the society. We should realize this and help him in every way possible. He deserves our help, sympathy, and encouragement.
