how-to-identify-simple-past-tense-with-explanation-and-paragraph

We use the Simple Past Tense to talk about actions that happened yesterday or in the past. It tells us what someone did before now. Let’s see how to identify it in a paragraph.

How to Identify Simple Past Tense:

• Structure:
• Subject + Second form of the verb + Object
• Example: I went, She played, He ate

• Usage:
• To talk about completed actions in the past
• Keywords: yesterday, last night, ago, last week, in 2024, etc.

• Verb Form:
• Use second forms of verbs (e.g., go → went, eat → ate)
• No helping verb like did in positive sentences

Daily-Use Paragraph (Simple Past Tense):
     I woke up at 6 o’clock yesterday. मी काल सहा वाजता उठलो. I brushed my teeth and took a bath. मी दात घासले आणि आंघोळ केली. Then I ate my breakfast quickly. मग मी पटकन नाश्ता केला. My father dropped me at school. माझ्या वडिलांनी मला शाळेत सोडले. I studied English and played games. मी इंग्रजी शिकलो आणि खेळ खेळलो.

How to Identify:
• The verbs woke up, brushed, took, ate, dropped, studied, and played are all in the past form.
• These actions are completed in the past (yesterday).
• This makes the paragraph a clear example of Simple Past Tense.
