A figure of speech is an ornamental use of words. अलंकारिक भाषेचा वापर म्हणजेच भाषेची सजावट.
A figure of speech may be defined as a change from the plain and ordinary mode of expression for the sake of emphasis or to beautify the language. अलंकारिक भाषेला साध्या आणि नेहमीच्या भाषेतील अभिव्यक्तीच्या बदलासोबत अर्थावर जोर देण्यासाठी किंवा भाषेला अधिक सुंदर बनवण्यासाठी वापरले जाते.
Figure of speech is a technique or a tool of expression, by means of which one deviates from the ordinary expression in order to produce a better or a more emphatic linguistic effect. अलंकारिक भाषा हे एक तंत्र किंवा अभिव्यक्तीचे साधन आहे, ज्याच्या मदतीने साध्या अभिव्यक्तीपासून थोडेसे बदललेले भाषिक परिणाम साधले जातात, जे अधिक चांगले आणि प्रभावी असतात.
Figures of speech are commonly used in poetry to enhance the beauty, imagery, poetic effect and rhyme scheme of the poem. काव्य सौंदर्य, प्रतिमा, काव्यात्मक परिणाम आणि काव्यातील यमक योजना वाढवण्यासाठी अलंकारांचा वापर सामान्यतः कवितेत केला जातो.
SIMILE
In a simile a comparison is made between two objects of different kinds which have however at least one point in common. It is usually introduced by the words as 'like' 'as...as' 'so...as' or 'so'.
Examples :
1. She hung her head like a dying flower.
The given line is an example of Simile.
Here the position of the woman's head is compared to that of a flower that is dying using the word 'like'.
2. I wandered lonely as a cloud.
The given line is an example of Simile.
Here the loneliness of the poet is compared to that of the cloud using the word 'as'.
3. He is as strong as a lion.
The given line is an example of Simile.
Here, there is a comparison between the man and the lion. The quality of comparison is strength. The comparative word used is 'as...as'.
4. The bird flew as Swift as an arrow.
5. She heard the frightening noise again, loud as a bullet shot.
6. The river flowed as silent as the night.
7. That beat into my ears like gong.
8. Life is like a dream.
9. A noise loud as thunder woke us up.
10. He is as strong as steel.
