CONCORD - 'ONE OF' - 1

The phrase 'one of' tells the number of people or things we are speaking of or writing about.

'one of' 'पैकी एक' हे आपण किती लोक किंवा गोष्टी बोलत आहोत किंवा लिहित आहोत याची संख्या सांगते.

It can only be used with Countable Nouns.

हे फक्त Countable Nouns (मोजता येणाऱ्या नामांसह) सह वापरले जाऊ शकते.

When we use 'one of'

A) The noun (नाम) that follows must be plural (अनेकवचनी)

Examples: 

1. Mr Prabhu waved at one of the boys. प्रभूंनी एका मुलाकडे पाहिले. (noun - boys - plural) 

2. One of the fans is not working. पंख्यांपैकी एक काम करत नाही. (noun - fans - plural)

3. Triya bought one of the Kurtis and gave it to me. त्रियाने एक कुर्ती विकत घेतली आणि मला दिली. ( noun - Kurtis - plural)

B) The verb (क्रियापद) that follows must be singular (एकवचनी)

Examples:

1. One of the kittens is sick. एक मांजरीचे पिल्लू आजारी आहे. (verb - is - singular)

2. One of the children was my neighbour. मुलांपैकी एक माझा शेजारी होता. (verb - was - singular) 

3. One of the girls has lost her mobile. एका मुलीचा मोबाईल हरवला आहे. (verb - has - singular)
