A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A BUS-CONDUCTOR

    The bus conductor goes to the bus depot early in the morning. बस कंडक्टर सकाळी लवकर बस डेपोत जातो. He gets into his bus with his ticket box and leather money bag. तिकीट बॉक्स आणि चामड्याची पैशाची बॅग घेऊन तो बसमध्ये चढतो. From now on he is incharge of the bus. त्यानंतर ते बसचे इन्चार्ज असतात. The bus starts its journey along its fixed route. बसचा निश्चित मार्गाने प्रवास सुरू होतो. It halts at bus stops. बस थांब्यावर थांबते. The conductor takes care to see that excess number of passengers do not enter the bus. जादा प्रवासी बसमध्ये येणार नाहीत याची काळजी कंडक्टर घेतो. He takes in the passengers, pulls the bell-cord and intimates to the driver to start the bus. तो प्रवाशांना आत घेतो, बेल-कॉर्ड ओढतो आणि ड्रायव्हरला बस सुरू करण्यासाठी सूचित करतो. He hands out punched tickets to the passengers and collect fares from them. तो प्रवाशांना पंच केलेली तिकिटे देतो आणि त्यांच्याकडून भाडे वसूल करतो.

     Throughout his hours of duty he has to go on doing this mechanical work. त्याच्या ड्युटीच्या संपूर्ण तासात त्याला हे यांत्रिक काम करत जावे लागते. He has to keep on standing or walking in the moving bus. त्याला चालत्या बसमध्ये उभे राहून किंवा चालत राहावे लागते. So he is often very badly jolted whenever the bus comes to a sudden halt or has a sharp turn. त्यामुळे जेव्हा बस अचानक थांबते किंवा तीक्ष्ण वळण येते तेव्हा त्याला अनेकदा जोरदार धक्का बसतो. He has to fight with queue jumpers and ticket evaders. त्याला रांगेत उडी मारणाऱ्या आणि तिकीट न घेणाऱ्यांशी लढावे लागते. He has to be tactful with men who hand him a hundred rupee note for five rupee ticket. त्याला पाच रुपयांच्या तिकिटासाठी शंभर रुपयांची नोट देणाऱ्या माणसांशी व्यवहारी वागावे लागते. He has to settle quarrels over seats. त्याला जागांवरून भांडणे मिटवावी लागतात. He has to be careful while handling cash and issuing tickets in a jam packed bus. खचाखच भरलेल्या बसमध्ये रोख रक्कम हाताळताना आणि तिकीट काढताना त्याला काळजी घ्यावी लागते.  

     Sometimes he loses his temper and quarrels with passengers. कधीकधी त्याचे रागावरचे नियंत्रण जाते आणि प्रवाशांशी भांडतो. But the passengers should understand his difficulties and try to bear with him as much as possible. मात्र प्रवाशांनी त्याच्या अडचणी समजून घ्याव्यात आणि त्याला शक्य तेवढे समजून घेण्याचा प्रयत्न करावा. That alone will make his onerous task easy and a bit bearable. त्याने त्याचे कठीण काम सोपे आणि थोडे सहन करण्यायोग्य बनेल.
