ADJECTIVE AND ADJECTIVE FORMS

🎯 An adjective is a word that describes a noun.

🎯 It may occur directly before the noun it describes (attributive) or it may occur in the predicate (predicative).

Examples -

He is a lazy boy. (attributive)

The boy is lazy. (predicative)

🎯 You can make adjectives out of other words by putting a suffix (letters added at the end of the word).

🎯 Sometimes you have to make changes in the spelling before adding the suffix.

Some spelling changes -

1. Drop the ending 'e' and then add the suffix. 

move - movable 

2. Drop the ending ' y' and put 'ic' and then add the suffix.

apply - applicable

3. Double the last letter.

sun - sunny

Some suffixes -

-ful - beauty - beautiful, dread - dreadful, pain - painful, waste - wasteful

-less - pain - painless, penny - penniless

-ive - attract - attractive, decide - decisive, respond - responsive, submit - submissive

-y - hair - hairy, stone - stony, sweat - sweaty

-ant - hesitate - hesitant,  triumph - triumphant, elegance - elegant

-ent - excel - excellent, insist - insistent, persist - persistent, suffice - sufficient

-ous - harmony - harmonious, mountain - mountainous, injury - injurious

-al - environment - environmental, face - facial, influence - influential, region - regional

-ial - commerce - commercial, palace - palatial,

-ary - custom - customary, imagine - imaginary, revolution - revolutionary

-ory - advice - advisory, contradict - contradictory, introduce - introductory, satisfy - satisfactory

-able - adapt - adaptable, agree - agreeable, memory - memorable, rely - reliable

-ic - acid - acidic, athelete - athletic, history - historic, rhythm - thythmic

-ly - death - deathly, hour - hourly, friend - friendly, world - worldly,
