EXCLAMATORY AND ASSERTIVE SENTENCES

An exclamatory sentence expresses a sudden strong feeling.

Examples :

What a short kurti it is! [Exclamatory Sentence]

How short kurti it is! [Exclamatory Sentence]

We can form an Exclamatory Sentence by starting it with 'What' or 'How'.

If we start it with 'What' - 

it should be followed by a noun phrase and then the subject + verb.

If we start it with 'How' -

We should follow it with an adjective or an adverb and then the subject + verb.

Don't forget to end off with an exclamation mark. [ ! ]

What   +   noun Phrase             +    subject/verb + !

What        a wonderful dress         you have !

What        a good news                    it is !

How    +   adjective/adverb      +    subject/verb +  !

How          beautiful                         the village is !

How          slowly                              she walks !

Some exclamatory sentences express deep wishes.

Such sentences begin with the word 'O'.

Examples :

O, if men were all like that wise bird!

I wish men were all like that wise bird.
