An interview falls into three parts -
1. Welcoming the interviewee-Interviewer is the host and the interviewer is the guest. Therefore the interviewer must begin the process by greeting the interviewee. He/She should then give an outline of the main purpose of the interview.
2. Questioning the interviewee-Interview questions can be asked verbally or they may appear in the form of a written questionnaire. The interviewee is expected to answer these questions. The nature of these questions should be clear, precise and accurate.
Close-ended questions-These questions invite brief answers. Ex: Do you want to go back to Nashik? The answer is fixed and precise as either Yes or No, Right or Wrong or a one-word answer. There is no optional answer or a second opinion about it.
Open-ended questions-The scope for expression, opinion and emotions is more in these types of questions. They seek to enquire into the nature of the interviewee and try to get detailed information to the question.
Ex: What is your opinion about illiteracy in India? These questions typically begin with Who, Where, When, What, Why, How.
3. Concluding the interview-As the interview draws to a close invite the interviewee to ask questions that he/she might want to ask thank him/her for answering the questions and conclude the interview.
