DAILY ENGLISH CONVERSATION - 18

A dialogue between a Teacher and his Student on 'Open Day' discussing some subjects.

Pruthvi : Good afternoon, Sir. 

Teacher : Pruthvi! Good afternoon. Your Roll no. is 26. तुझा हजेरी क्र. 26 आहे. Let me see your result. मला तुझा निकाल पाहू देत. Here is your result. हा तुझा निकाल आहे. Pruthvi you have done very poor in languages - French and Marathi. पृथ्वी तू फ्रेंच आणि मराठी या भाषांमध्ये फार वाईट प्रगती केली आहेस.

Pruthvi : Yes Sir. I find these subjects quite difficult and boring. हो सर. मला हे विषय खूप अवघड आणि कंटाळवाणे वाटतात.

Teacher : Pruthvi, no subject is boring. पृथ्वी, कोणताही विषय कंटाळवाणा नाही. It's because you don't like the subjects that you find it boring because you have not really learnt these languages. तुला कंटाळवाणे वाटणारे विषय आवडत नाहीत कारण तू या भाषा शिकलेल्या नाहीत.

Pruthvi : I find it difficult to read the language. मला भाषा वाचायला अवघड जाते.

Teacher : Listen Pruthvi, you must get one thing in your brain and that is whether you like it or not, you have to pass in these subjects so you may as well taking interest in these subjects. पृथ्वी ऐक, तुझ्या मेंदूत एक गोष्ट आलीच पाहिजे आणि ती म्हणजे तुला आवडो किंवा न आवडो, तुला या विषयांत उत्तीर्ण व्हायलाच हवे जेणेकरून तुला या विषयांमध्ये रसही लागेल.

Pruthvi : But Sir, even the teachers don't make it interesting. They talk in Marathi and French which I can't understand. पण सर, शिक्षकही ते मनोरंजक करत नाहीत आणि ते मराठी आणि फ्रेंचमध्ये बोलतात जे मला समजत नाही.

Teacher : Pruthvi, I will share a trick with you to study these subjects. पृथ्वी मी तुला या विषयांचा अभ्यास करण्याची युक्ती देईन.

Pruthvi : Yes, Sir. I am ready - please give the trick. होय सर. मी तयार आहे - कृपया युक्ती द्या.

Teacher : Write two paragraphs from your text-book. While writing, read it aloud. Also comprehend the meaning of what you are writing. Once you practice this, you will find the language more interesting. Learning will become fun for you. दररोज तू तुझ्या पाठ्यपुस्तकाचे दोन परिच्छेद लिही. तू लिहित असताना मोठ्याने वाच आणि तू काय लिहित आहेस त्याचा अर्थ देखील समजून घे. एकदा हे पूर्ण झाल्यावर तुझी आवड जागृत झाल्यावर तुला भाषा अतिशय मनोरंजक वाटेल. शिकणे आनंदाचे होईल.

Pruthvi : Thank you Sir, I am going to try this from today. धन्यवाद सर. आजपासून मी हे करून पाहणार आहे. 

Teacher : That's like a good boy.

Pruthvi : Thank you so much Sir.
