CLAUSES AND THEIR FUNCTIONS - WHO, WHOM, WHOSE, WHICH

There are some words which may introduce

A Noun Clause

An Adjective Clause

An Adverb Clause. 

In such cases, in order to name the clause correctly, we must find out what work it does in the sentences.

Study carefully the following examples:


WHO, WHOM, WHOSE, WHICH

NOUN CLAUSE 

🔺 Neema asked me who broke the glass.

🔺Neema asked me whom I wanted.

🔺Neema asked me whose mobile it was.

🔺Neema asked me which mobile I had bought.


Here the clauses introduced by who, whom, whose and which are objects of the verb asked in the Main Clause.

They all are therefore noun clauses.


ADJECTIVE CLAUSE 

🔺Neema knew the girl who broke the glass.

🔺Neema brought the maid whom I wanted.

🔺Neema showed me the boy whose mobile it was.

🔺Neema took the mobile which I had bought. 

Here the clauses introduced by who, whom, whose and which qualify the nouns girl, maid, boy, mobile respectively in the Main Clause.

They all are therefore adjective clauses.
