There was a villager. He was illiterate. He did not know how to read and write. He frequently went to a town for walk. There he often saw people wearing spectacles to read books. He thought that he would be able to read like them if he only put on spectacles.
So he decided to buy a pair of spectacles. He went to an optician in the town and asked for a pair of spectacles. The shopkeeper gave him a book and various kinds of spectacles.
The villager tried them all. But he could not read. He said that all the spectacles were useless. The shopkeeper gave him a doubting look. He looked at the farmer and saw that he was holding the book upside down.
He said to the villager, "The spectacles are good but you don't know how to read." The villager replied, "Well, if I had known how to read, I would not have thought of buying spectacles."
