 ZERO WASTE

Here is a dialogue between two friends, Devayani and Kavya, where Devayani shares her plan to adopt a zero-waste lifestyle for a cleaner environment.

Devayani: Kavya, I am going to do something big now. Mom and Dad said to me, "Look, we don’t have time. You do what needs to be done."
काव्या, आता मी एक मोठं काम करणार आहे. आईबाबा मला म्हणाले, "हे बघ, आम्हाला वेळ नाही. तूच काय करायचं ते कर."

Kavya: Oh, what are you going to do?
ओह, तू काय करणार आहेस?

Devayani: I will put a big sign on our door that says, "We do not create garbage in our house."

Devayani: Wet waste is decomposing waste, like your kitchen scraps—vegetable peels, leftover food. Dry waste is paper, cardboard, plastic, glass, and wood. I will store them separately.
ओला कचरा म्हणजे सडणारा कचरा, जसं की तुमचे स्वयंपाकघरातील उष्टे—भाजीच्या साली, शिल्लक अन्न. सुका कचरा म्हणजे कागद, कार्डबोर्ड, प्लास्टिक, काच, लाकूड. यांना वेगळं ठेवलं जाईल.

Kavya: So, what’s next?
मग पुढे काय?

Devayani: I will get a basket for decomposing wet waste. I will put the wet garbage in it and cover it with some soil. In two months, that basket will be full, and the compost will be ready. We can use it for plants.
मी ओल्या कचऱ्याला सडण्यासाठी एक टोपली घेईन. त्यात ओला कचरा टाकेन आणि थोडी माती त्यावर घालीन. दोन महिन्यात ती टोपली भरून जाईल आणि कंपोस्ट तयार होईल. ते आपण झाडांमध्ये वापरू शकतो.

Kavya: And what about dry waste?

Devayani: I will store it neatly and sell it to recyclers once a month.
