WHAT IS A PREPOSITIONAL PHRASE? 

A prepositional phrase is a group of words that begins with a preposition and ends with a noun or pronoun (called the object of the preposition). पूर्वसर्गीय वाक्यांश म्हणजे पूर्वसर्गाने (preposition) सुरू होणारा आणि नाम किंवा सर्वनामाने समाप्त होणारा शब्दसमूह. It functions as an adjective (modifying a noun) or an adverb (modifying a verb, adjective, or adverb). हा वाक्यांश नाम, क्रियापद, किंवा विशेषणाचे वर्णन करू शकतो.

1. Prepositional Phrase as an Adjective

The book on the table is mine.
टेबलावरची पुस्तके माझी आहेत.
On the table is a prepositional phrase modifying the noun book. It tells us which book.
टेबलावरची हा पूर्वसर्गीय वाक्यांश आहे.

2. Prepositional Phrase as an Adverb

She ran across the field.
ती मैदानावरून पळाली.
Across the field is a prepositional phrase modifying the verb ran. It tells us where she ran.

3. Prepositional Phrase Showing Time

We will meet after the show.
आपण कार्यक्रमानंतर भेटू.
After the show is a prepositional phrase modifying the verb meet. It tells us when we will meet.

He succeeded because of his hard work.
